151-152 High Street
History
No151
In 1865 No151-152 was listed as the Queens Head and soon after the Crown became the Crown and Queen Hotel. By 1932 the Kelly's Directory listed Whatling and Roberts as running their Confectionery business from the shop. According to the 1953 phone book, it has the Crown as being in No150-151-152 but in the phone book of 1965 it has John W. Ellington operating his Auctioneer, Estate Agent and Valuer business from the address. In 2000 the shop was running as Crown Tanning and in 2016 the shop was knocked thru into No152 and is now the Istanbul Chef, Kebab.
No152
No152, which can be seen on the right side of the picture was in 1865 was Mrs John Hanner's Straw Bonnet Makers shop and I can't find anymore reference to the shop until the Phone book of 1952 when it was part of the Crown. After Mrs Hanner the shop was knocked through to allow the Queens Head to expand and it wasn't until the 1960's that it became a shop again when the Lancashire and Yorkshire Remnant, Soft Furnishings company moved in. By 2016 the shop has been knocked through again to No151 and has become the Istanbul Chef.
