In the 2nd picture on the left you can see Victoria House which is No159 and was Mr Samuel Lancelot Cook, Bakery and Confectioner's shop. He also had a shop at No158. As can be seen in the corner of this picture, the picture must have been taken on a day when he was closed as the shutters are on the windows. Soon after the picture was taken the West side of the street was demolished for street widening and the bakery became the Anchor Hotel. If you can find a copy, the local author Ivan Bunn has a book called "Haunted Lowestoft" which details all the ghost sightings around town and includes this story: One night during WW2, a young sailor was sleeping in the bar when he was rudely awoken by a rush of cold air. When he looked up, he saw, standing in the doorway, a man dressed in a cowled robe but before he could approach him he disappeared.
