    History

Both pictures show No160-161, you can clearly see the window which allowed light to the vaults below. In 1865 before the building was demolished No161 was Mr George Woodcock's Bootmakers shop and after it was rebuilt it remained a Boot and shoemaker run by Mr Herbert. E. Ives. Recorded in the Kelly's Directory of 1932, Mr George William Wilton had his Grocers shop in both No160-161 but by 1967 the Grocers had gone. Mr Stanley Philip Cattermull had opened a Cycle repair shop in No161. Ray Vincent opened his studio in the 1970's and knocked through to No160, as can be seen in the 2nd picture. In the mid 1990's studio 161 moved next door, to the previous studios of Lawrence Gall at No 102.
