History
"In 1865 the shop was recorded as Thomas Parker, Linen draper and by the 1880's when the first picture was taken the shop had become William Nobbs, watch makers and jewellers, I like how if you study the picture the join between 51-52 is still the same. In the Kelly's Directory of 1900, William Stephen Nobbs is still recorded as trading from this address but by the next Kelly's directory of 1932 the shop is Bertie Walt hairdressers.
In 1967 the shop has passed to Miss E King and the shop was a ladies hairdressers and not long after in 1970 the shop had passed to Heiner of Switzerland, hairstylist. If you look at the 3rd picture you can see were the Rise name board has been taken down so the shop can be painted thus exposing the Heiner sign under it. The shop was taken over in 2000 by Stephen and Margaret Cowell. Why not go for a haircut tomorrow?”
