Concrete Defeated (almost)
The Shed continues. We regularly meet on Wednesdays at 10am on land next to Lowestoft Station carpark.
For many years, the piece of land was a siding and cattle dock for the railway. We've found eleven posts. They are very robust – huge steel bars (possibly rail track) embedded in concrete. We have tried many ways of chopping the concrete off. We have failed. Up until now.
P J Spillings to the rescue. They have kindly lent us a portable compressor, a Kango, and, most importantly, two strong young men. They have broken five posts so far – and probably several Kango blades. So a big up to P J Spillings, well-known local building and construction company.
They aren't the only businesses that have supported the Shed – Apex Scaffolding (cheers, Dave), Phoenix Windows (cheers, Maria), East Coast Cleaners (cheers, Jimmy) and Lowestoft Tile Co. Thank you.
We desperately need a tool shed, so that we can use the main shed to make things and comfortably gather.
Work has continued on creating some space amongst the brambles. The solar power works well. The guttering is done. A greater-spotted woodpecker pops in, as do muntjac. Plans are afoot to lay a gravel/mesh patio at the rear of the shed. Bramble roots continue to annoy members.
Absolutely no progress with Network Rail to borrow, lease or acquire the Old Stables (ex-Menzies, ex-Chadds). Shed patience is being stretched.
