Lowestoft still has many lovely buildings, despite having lost a few in the wars.

Centuries of Ongoing Change

Denmark Road, Flensburgh Street and Tonning Street: three closely connected roads near the shopping-centre and railway station of the Suffolk coastal town of Lowestoft (the UK’s most easterly community). What possible connection can there be between this trio, the most southerly located of the Scandinavian countries and two towns in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein?

Artillery Drill Hall

This building, which stands in Arnold Street, is in need of some restorative tlc and is an important remnant of Lowestoft’s military past.

Kirkley Cemetery is a burial ground in the Kirkley area of Lowestoft in Suffolk. Located on London Road South, the cemetery is maintained by Waveney District Council and is open for traditional and Green Burials.

East Suffolk Council have announced their plans for the Battery Green car park and surrounding area.

The design team are Norwich-based architects Chaplin Farrant and Hemingway Design.

On Wednesday 4th October they presented a small exhibition showcasing the plans for us, the potential users, to examine.

It's not hard to think this is a Good Idea.

George Glover (1812–1890) was a British architect who made significant contributions to the architectural landscape of Lowestoft. Born in York, he was the brother-in-law of Joseph Aloysius Hansom, the inventor of the Hansom cab. Glover’s early career included working for Norwich architect John Brown.

A project funded by the Arts Council is calling on people to share memories of a town's now-closed department store.

Tuttles Tales will examine Tuttles in Lowestoft, Suffolk, which closed in 1981, through personal stories and physical memorabilia.

The stories will be collated to inspire a production of the same name at The Seagull Theatre in March 2024.

Creative Commons fire

Lowestoft was badly damaged in a substantial fire in 1645. Beginning in a fish house at the base of Lighthouse Score, buildings as far south as Rant Score and to the west of High Street around Crown Street were damaged or destroyed.
