DIRECTORY o:F THE CouNTY OF SuFFOLK may be found at least equal in 
accuracy to the previous ones. 

Every parish in the county will again be found to be included in the book, which, though necessarily above all things a Directory, still continues in some measure to be a Gazetteer, giving as it does a topographical account of every Town, Pari~h, Village and Township, and descriptions of the principal buildings and objects of interest. 
Full information as to the County Council; the Hundreds, Unions, and County Court Districts; the Churches, with the value of the Livings and the names of the Patrons and Incumbents; the Chief Landowners, with details as to the Principal Seats ; the Hospitals and Charities, whether general or local; the Acreage, Soils and Crops ; the Markets and Fairs;, the 1neans of Conveyance by Railway, etc., will be found in its pages.

The Baptist Chapel, in London road, 1s an edifice of fimt and bnck, m the Gothic style, and was opened m Feb. x8gg: the total cost amountmg to £5,500; it con­sists of a na-re and aisle, divided bv red gramte columns with carved atone caps and moulded bases : there is a fine organ, and the chapel affords sittmgs for 700 perS>Ons In 1903 a new achool-room was bmlt at a cost of £2,500. There is a Particula.r Baptist chapel at Kirkley, erected in 1878. The CongregatiOnal chapel, London road, was first founded m 1655 ; the present edifice, erected in x855, affords 764 sittmgs. The Wes­leyan chapel, High street, bwlt m 1862, IS an edifice of white briCk w1th Caen stone dressmgs in the Itahan style, from design& by Mr. J. L. Clemence, and will seat x,ooo persons: in 1908 Sunday schools were erected at a cost of £4,000 The United Methodist chapel, in London road, bUilt in x878 a,t a cost of £8,2oo, 1s of brick and stone m t•he Itahan ·atyle, from designs by Mr John Johnson, architect, of London, and ·has a tower With spire, t<lgether xoo feet in he1ght : there are ~oo sittmgs. 
The PnmitlTe Methodist chapel, St Peter's street, built in I8J6, and enlarged in 19II, seats about 300 That in Mill road, erected in x87o, has 320 sittmgs, and there is another in Norwich roa.d, bUilt m 1872 and !!eating about So The Christian Meetmg Boom is in Chapel street. The Sailors' Bethel, Battery Green road, was bUilt 1n x899, and will hold about x,ooo persons 
A Ceme•tery of 15 acres, on the Beccles road, was formed in x885, and enlarged by the additiOn of 3 acres m 1908, and contams a mortuary chapel; there IS another cemetery of about 5! acres in the London road, Kirkley; both are under the control of the Town Council. 
The Town Hall, erected in x857• and rebuilt in x89g, is a structure m the Itahan style, with an illuminated clock and bell: the large hall i1 ornamented with pilasters, supporting a bold corniCe and segmental decorated ceiling; three of the wmdows are filled w1th stamed glass, presented by the late Sir Morton Peto hart.: that at the west end i1 mtended to commemorate (be umon of France and England, durmg the Cr1mean war of x854-6, and was designed by the late Mr. John Thomas, and includes m the centre a representation of the tournament of the F1eld of the Cloth of Gold, 7-2,; Tune, t520, Wlth effigies of St. Dems of France and .St. George of England ; in the base are the respective shields of both nation'!, and the national flags, t.ngether with medallion portraits of H M the late Queen Victoria and HR H. the late Prince Consort, the Emperor Napo­leon III. and the Emprel!ls Eugeme : the whole is sur­rounded by a rich bordering of roses and fteur-de-hs alternated: this window was exhibited at the Paris ExhibitiOn, 1885: the two smaller wmdows contam respectively the arms of Su Morton Peto hart. as lord of the manor, and the arm!! of the town of Lowestoft. 
In 1899 the front of the old Town Hall havmg been taken down for the purpose of widemn~ High stl'eet, some ad 10ming properties were purchased and the Town Hall and ~fumCipal Offices facmg Compass street rebmlt, under the direction of l\Ir. G H. Hamby, the borough engmeer, at a cost of about £4,000. 
The market and rights were transferred to the corpora­tion in x887: the market place IS in High street: the market is on Wednesday, and annual fans are held on May q and Oct. 11 for small wares. 
St Margaret's Church Institute, in .!.le:xandra road. is now (1912) in course of erectwn, at an estimated cost of £5,ooo; the main hall wlll seat 7oo, and there will be club rooms for men and boys
