177a High Street Stradbroke House
History
No 177a as it appears to have been a private residence for all of its life. In 1865 the building was the home of Dr John Prentice who was a Surgeon in the town. Listed in the 1932 edition of the Kelly's Directory it has a Mr William Hallett as living there.
During the 1950's the building was rebuilt into what we see today, Shadbroke House. listed in the phone book of 1965, it has a Miss F. J.Wright in flat 1, Mr George. E. Payne flat 2, Mr Herbert. F. Reed in flat3, Mrs B. Bensall in flat 4, Mr Ridgewood in flat 5 and Mr Fountain in flat 6. The building stands on the former site of the Three Herrings Public House which was Number 181 before the street widening of 1898. CREDIT:Crispin Hook
