HISTORIC HIGH STREET GOES DIGITAL
An innovative online project created by Joe Thompson of VenturaCottage.com has just gone live on our local webscene.
Supported by Lowestoft Town Council, The Historic High Street Stroll can be found on THIS community website Lowestoft Old and Now
Using 'drag' or 'scroll' the app takes you along Lowestoft's Historic High Street. You'll see one side of the street, displayed in historical and contemporary photographs. Clicking on a photo reveals both its history, often including more photos, and what it is now.
Lowestoft Old and Now is proud of this feature. It's a unique way of showing the High Street, though of course building on many past presentations of its history.
Memories and historical information is constantly added, which where possible we check for authenticity and accuracy.
Photos are positioned as accurately as possible using GPS data. For example, the southern end, now Artillery Way, shows the alleyway between the buildings. Cutting edge software is used on some of the photos, altering perspective and angle while retaining spatial fidelity (we can take a photo looking up or down the High Street, and manipulate it, accurately, so that it looks 'front on').
All 180 properties contain historical information, including some on the Scores.
