May Day weekend. A traditional – 1000's of years – celebration of Spring and the flowering of nature. And since 1978 in the UK a celebration of International Labour Day.
Always willing to indulge, I attended four events spanning the long weekend, which proved, to my satisfaction, that there's always lots to enjoy in Lowestoft.
Eastern Angles are a theatre group who have been writing and performing across East Anglia for nearly forty years, providing a ridiculous number of productions investigating and relishing every aspect of our lives and history.

First Saturday of the month - Compass Street, High Street. We collect TetraPaks, crisp packets, toothbrushes and toothpaste tubes, gently worn bra's, but mainly it's good to use the recycling which is already available, like supermarkets. Use our constantly updated map to find out what can go where (scroll down for the link). We are also a Hygiene Bank Donation Point.

The Great Big Green Weekend event low-carboned its way through Sparrow's Nest on Saturday. Our Lowestoft Town Council wanted to highlight the issues facing us all from Climate Change.
The rain held off, the wind was sensible, and a good few people turned up. A very rough estimate would be at least 2000 people and a fair few dogs through the day.
There were many stalls, mostly green or nature themed in some way.
Added: 23 September, 2023Tuesday's warning that gas shortages in this coming winter might lead to interrupted electricity supplies – that is, power cuts – reminded me of Lowestoft's own new power station.
