Celebrating Heritage, Promoting Our Future

councillor

Peter Lang

I am a Green Party Councillor representing Elmtree Ward. I am involved in several community organisations working in and around our town.

I have lived in Lowestoft for 34 years. After moving from London with my parents, I used to manage a cycle shop in Oulton Broad and in recent years I have been working in a customer service role with the local authority, having previously been on Committees for Lowestoft BMX club and Gorleston Football Club.

The Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s Carlton Marshes, where I am a volunteer, is a good example of how through team effort and investment an inspiring outcome can be achieved for the good of the environment and the community. This is the type of partnership that Lowestoft needs to thrive.

I  feel that it is so important that the Town Council looks to the future, engages with young people and their interests, as well as looking to the past to enable a lasting and active legacy to be created within our town.

I want to make positive changes for Lowestoft so that my children and future generations can benefit from this. I may say “I” but it’s actually “we” as a town that can make these changes and make sure our heritage is passed on to those future generations to enjoy and for the town to prosper.

I believe that any changes we make for the town will benefit future generations and the town’s residents. I am passionate about the environment and looking after the planet for our children and their children to come.

I am an active participant in the local heritage scene: I am a member of the Jack Rose Old Lowestoft Society, have been a member of the Save Our Record Office (SORO) community campaign group from the outset, and have participated in Heritage Open Days and supported local heritage projects.

I live in the Historic High Street with my family, where we run a small shop. I have worked as an electronic engineer since graduating, and that is still my day job today, making ideas into reality. We moved here in 2015 from Lincoln, a city where history itself is a tourist attraction. History is very important to me in Lowestoft too, and seeing the High Street deteriorating made me decide I wanted to be a Town Councillor. I am passionate about following the ideas of our communities, making Lowestoft an interesting and welcoming town that everyone will want to visit. Added: 22 September, 2023

I believe passionately in striving for positive outcomes for the town of Lowestoft and I'm proud to work hard on behalf of the people of the area. I bring to the Town Council my enthusiasm, my interest in services to children and young people and my passion for making our town as ecologically friendly as possible. I'm fully on board with the Town Council's declaration of climate crisis and would encourage individuals to make the small changes required, which together make a big difference.

I was born in Lowestoft and managed to find work in the town for most of my working life. I have strong beliefs in keeping the heritage of Lowestoft alive and will work to maintain it. We have many challenges before us but as a strong Town Council we can overcome those challenges. If you have any concerns please get in touch with me and I will hope to be able to help sort them out for you.
