Working with archive photo collections
20 February 2024
A key part of the Ten Streets project could be:
Working with archive photo collections to design and put in place systems that embed multiple copyright protection systems that will discourage unauthorised sharing (via social media) and thus give confidence to such collections to share more widely (sometimes for the first time). This could also allow ways to embed further details in each picture (meta data?). This would travel WITH the image even if duplicated, screenshot or printed as hard copy. This would allow users to discover.
- photo taken (year) circa
- Original photographer
- Taxonomy (Butchers, Florist, War damage etc
- Photo sourced from (donation from Jim Blogs)
- Location (usually obvious)
- Photo type maybe (glass plate, 35mm slide, photo) etc
- Where to request / buy hi res versions of the photo, thus supporting and rewarding the archivists and restorers
It may also allow the project to do more creative things with the photos
- show as a gallery, by collection or era
- show on a map
