    History

In 1865 No51 is recorded as a Confectioners run by John Robert Cooper and by 1900 it had passed to his son Robert Cooper Junior and the shop in 2016 was a baker's. In the Kelly's Directory of 1932 the shop has passed to Brewsters which is a bakers, pastry-cooks and restaurant. In 1967 the business has passed to Matthes ltd, you can see this in the 2nd picture. In 1980 the business has become Howes Videos and when the 3rd picture was taken in 1998 the shop had become Strands Haircutters and finally today it is Cutting Corner.CREDIT: Lowestoft High Street, The Butcher, The Baker and The Candlestick Maker by Crispin Hook 2016 Get the book

I was born in this house in 1945. It was then  Brewster's Bakery owned by my grandfather . He owned the whole block going down Crown Score on the right.   The ground floor on the left was a Vegetable shop owned by The Stores family. - Gloria Harding
