Lowestoft Model Engineering and Model Making Exhibition
The East Coast College off St Peter's Street hosted this annual event (29/30 October 2022).
Hidden amongst the hundreds of older men with grey hair and beards packing the main halls and myriad smaller rooms of the East Coast College Energy Centre there was extraordinary array of models and modellers. Outside there were working steam engines huffing and puffing round the car park, and RC helicopters almost looping the loop.
There was a Dalek, a Droid, a Tardis, many working models, exhibits ranging from 2nd World War coding machines to wind energy engineering teaching aids, from large models of Lowestoft-built ships to tiny rail layouts, from beam engines to Broads Cruisers.
If you could model it, it was there. Including an 0 Gauge (I think) 3D printed shunter complete with stunning sound effects, including windscreen wipers.
The number of hours which had gone into the making of these models must run into millions. Amazing dedication, astonishing skills, all presented with exceptional modesty.
If you see this exhibition advertised next year, I recommend you visit, whether you have an interest in modelling or not.
